About Sangita Mallik
She is a globally recognized entrepreneurial engineer, resilient grid expert, and seasoned quality and sustainability professional with over 30 years of experience in the electric power industry. She has received prestigious recognition for creating innovative solutions for sustainability in the electric power sector.
She is the first woman engineer who introduced Baldrige Criteria to achieve excellence at all levels. She is also the first woman engineer in the infrastructure sector who won the 2023 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for creating innovative solutions for sustainability in the electric power sector. The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is the ONLY award for performance excellence granted by the President of the United States.
In the late '80s, Sangita was one of the emerging leaders of the performance excellence and quality revolution that transformed the infrastructure sector, driving it towards sustainability. Sangita ushered in a new age of resilience, quality, and sustainability in the power industry by challenging the traditional infrastructure design and development approach. She took bold and transformative initiatives to rebuild her community and transformed the power sectors onto a resilient path.
Academic and Professional Affiliation
Sangita began her power journey at nine and created a power group in her community since she hardly had any power in her town. She earned her Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in electronics and telecommunications engineering from Bhilai Institute of Technology, India. Her undergraduate research was focused on exploring innovative ideas to improve the reliability of power line systems.
She holds an executive certificate in strategy, leadership, and technology from MIT Sloan School of Management (USA), an executive certificate in crisis leadership from Harvard NPLI (USA), a certificate of specialization in strategy from Harvard Business School (USA), an executive certificate of public leadership from Harvard Kennedy School (USA), and an executive certificate in Advanced Computing from C-DAC (India). In addition, she is professionally affiliated with IEEE, ASCE, ASQ, Baldrige, ISO, PMI, ISTE, Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, and US Army Educational Outreach Programs.
Sangita has demonstrated great fortitude by devoting her life and career to building a more reliable, resilient, and sustainable electric power grid and transforming engineering leadership to manage strategic change effectively. Sangita specializes in multidimensional change management and has extensive experience working with manufacturers, technology leaders, professional engineers, education institutions, and policy actors for over 25 years.
She is devoted to being a force for good and achieving sustainability through daily activities. She founded Sustainability1 in 1989 to help policy actors make responsible decisions and navigate the complex business landscape effectively. She also founded SANPEC in 2009, a purpose-led, value-aligned, and innovation-driven socially conscious firm specializing in design, engineering, fabrication, risk mitigation, inspection, quality, and sustainability management of critical electric power, lighting, transportation, and communication infrastructure assets throughout North America.
Driven by her spirit and passion for sustainable development, Sangita is at the vanguard of making real-world knowledge, financial support, and a new opportunity accessible to the K-12 community. She serves as an Army Education Outreach Program Ambassador and has mentored and impacted the lives of thousands of youths through STEM education and philanthropic work. She has received several leadership and innovation awards to create a positive difference in the lives of America's youth and vulnerable communities, be a catalyst for social change, and create a unique innovation ecosystem to balance economic growth and the public good.
